Safety and security: the first steps in selling your city

Exciting times lay ahead for Chester founded in 70 AD by the Romans as Deva Victrix.

Over the next fifteen years, the Chester Renaissance development and investment programme will deliver a programme of improvements in Chester as part of its One City Plan.

The aim: creating a reinvigorated city centre, making it a distinctive and desirable place in which to live, invest, do business, visit and study, and developing and supporting a cultural, retail and visitor offer of the highest quality.

However as Lisa Shannon, Business Crime Reduction Officer of the Chester Against Business Crime partnership (CBAC) points out: "You'll struggle to rejuvenate and encourage visitors and investment if your city isn't safe. Thankfully Chester is".

CBAC was formed in 2005 with the objective of reducing business crime and anti-social behaviour in Chester City centre. It now sits within Chester Renaissance scheme as an essential component in ensuring the success of the One City Plan.

The partnership has succeeded in Chester where membership has risen to over 300. That success has led to the expansion of the scheme to cover neighbouring Ellesmere Port, Cheshire Oaks and Northwich.
