'BCRP In-a-Box' launched for new crime reduction partnerships
A new product has been launched aimed specifically at smaller crime reduction partnerships, or ones which are just starting up. 'BCRP In-a-Box' has been developed to make it easier, cheaper - and safer - for small partnerships to set up.
Launched by Littoralis Ltd (www.littoralis.com ) the company behind the widely-used BCRP Intranet secure information sharing system, BCRP In-a-Box comprises five documents. One is a step-by-step guide to how to establish a partnership in an appropriate legal form. The others define the rules and procedures of the partnership so that it complies with the all-important Data Protection Act and other UK and EU legislation.
"By going online, business crime reduction partnerships cut their administration costs very considerably" says Littoralis director Dave Platten. "Plus BCRP Intranet 'forces' compliance with Good Practice as defined by organisation such as the Association of Business Crime Partnerships. Together those factors help explain why BCRP Intranet is already in use by 40 partnerships throughout the country, including many of the largest.
"But smaller partnerships, or ones setting up from scratch, face another problem too - how to set up the partnership from a legal point of view. That's what 'BCRP In-a-Box' solves. Smaller partnerships need help here, because it's important not only to ensure compliance with Best Practice, but also to structure and consitute the partnership in the best yet simplest way to ensure legal protections for Members".
So BCRP In-a-Box comprises a set of five documents, which any Partnership can adopt free of charge, which define precisely how a crime reduction partnership should be set up, and how it must be run in order to comply not only with Best Practice, but also with other legal obligations.
The pack comprises five documents including a practical 'Step by Step' guide to establishing a partnership as an 'unincorporated association' - the least complex, lowest cost structure for such an organisation, but which nevertheless provides the partnership with important legal protections.
The other four documents are templates which partnerships can adopt for themselves. Two of these - the Constitution of the partnership, and 'Obligations of the Data Controller' must be signed by each member of the Board of Management (which can be as small as three people). The other two - Rules of Membership, and Protocols of the Partnership - need to be certified by each Member; something that can be done online through BCRP Intranet.
Says Platten: "One of the great benefits about BCRP Intranet is that it forces Members to self-certify online that they have read, understood and agree to abide by the relevant Must Read documents – namely the Rules and the Protocols of the Partnership. With an online-only partnership, unless each Member self-certifies in this way they simply cannot access the intranet and the sensitive personal information in it. This means that ensuring compliance with the law and Best Practice is much easier for the partnership - yet, at the same time, much more effective than with paper-based procedures".
For a single-scheme partnership (day-time or night-time) Littoralis' BCRP Intranet costs £500 for implementation and training, and a licence of £50 a month. The new ‘BCRP In-a-Box’ is free of charge - and Littoralis also offers a free annual 'Compliance Health Check' to BCRP Intranet users who adopt its BCRP In-a-Box documentation and operate an online-only partnership.
